The project has expanded beyond its original focus on Ethereum restaking and Actively Validated Services (AVSs) to position itself as the “verifiable cloud for the agentic era,” providing infrastructure that allows developers and users to verify how an agent was executed, which code and models it used, and whether its outputs were altered.
Contexte
EigenCloud, formerly known as EigenLayer, was founded in 2021 by Sreeram Kannan. Eigen is the German word for “own,” and Kannan has stated that EigenLayer was founded to provide users “your own layer” and “developers with access to the Ethereum staked capital base and decentralized validator set.”

EigenCloud’s strategic evolution can therefore be understood as an expansion of EigenLayer’s original restaking thesis. Restaking, operator rewards and slashing remain the economic foundation, while EigenCompute, EigenAI, EigenDA and AgentKit provide the application-facing infrastructure through which those guarantees can be used.
