About Ordinals
Ordinals is a project allowing the creation of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the Bitcoin blockchain. It challenges the traditional domain of NFTs, which were primarily associated with blockchains like Ethereum and Solana. The Ordinals protocol numerates Bitcoin's smallest unit, satoshis, attaching additional data to make each satoshi distinct through a process called "inscription." This method contrasts with traditional NFTs created using smart contracts on other blockchains, as Ordinals are directly inscribed on the Bitcoin blockchain, benefiting from its immutability, security, and durability. The protocol, enabled by Bitcoin's Taproot update, encourages collecting satoshis based on their rarity, adding utility to the Bitcoin network beyond conventional investment and monetary transfer uses.
