The daily value moved on-chain in BTC, after subtracting the change returning to the sender.
Why it matters
It measures money that actually changed hands, unlike raw output volume which counts a sender paying themselves back.
How it is built
Change is identified heuristically, not with certainty: the source infers which output returned to the sender. Deliberate coin-control or privacy techniques defeat the heuristic, so the figure is an estimate and is named one.
What to watch
Every UTXO spend creates change, and counting it inflates apparent volume enormously — a wallet moving one coin can register as moving fifty. Removing change is what makes this series usable as an economic throughput measure and as the denominator of NVT.
