The AVIV Ratio compares Bitcoin's price to the Active Value Invested (the cost basis of economically active coins), a refinement of MVRV that filters out lost and dormant supply.
Why it matters
It measures how expensive the market is relative to the capital actively invested by participants who can realistically transact, giving a cleaner valuation signal than raw MVRV.
How it is built
AVIV divides the market value of active supply by its invested (realized) value, using cointime economics to weight coins by their active, non-vaulted lifespan.
What to watch
Because it strips out lost coins that distort classic MVRV, AVIV gives sharper cycle tops and bottoms; readings well below its fair band mark undervaluation, and stretched highs mark overvaluation.
