Why it matters
It answers what the typical, middle-of-the-distribution on-chain transfer size is, without distortion from a few very large transfers.
How it is built
Sorting all individual on-chain transfers within each five-minute window by size and taking the middle value.
What to watch
A rising median suggests typical transfer sizes are growing across the board; because it is resistant to outliers, it gives a cleaner read on typical usage than the average when a few whale transfers are present.
